Agatha Kluk

Agatha is a partner at Kluk Farber Law.

Agatha represents entrepreneurs, companies, investors and creatives in a variety of industries including consumer products and goods, technology, hospitality and creative works. She advises on initial company formations, venture financings, employee equity incentives and executive hiring, cross-border commercial arrangements, commercial contracts and compliance matters. Agatha also acts as a part-time general counsel to many of her clients and advises on day to day legal issues that arise during the life cycle of their business.

Prior to co-founding KFL, Agatha practiced in the corporate department at Debevoise & Plimpton and provided guidance on executive compensation and management issues in a variety of transactions. She advised clients on both private and public buy and sell-side M&A, IPOs, and ongoing general compliance matters.

In addition to practicing law, Agatha speaks and writes about issues relating to women, entrepreneurship and the law.

Sonia Farber

Sonia is a partner at Kluk Farber Law.

Sonia leads Kluk Farber’s litigation practice. She represents companies and individuals in commercial litigation and arbitration, employment matters, and intellectual property disputes. Sonia has particular expertise in matters relating to technology, venture capital and other financial services, consumer products, food and beverage, fashion, and insurance.

Sonia’s practice includes working closely with executives and founders on sophisticated employment matters, including negotiation of compensation packages, buyouts and separations, and discrimination and human rights violations in the workplace.

In addition, Sonia acts as general counsel advising companies on regulatory compliance matters, risk management, and privacy and cybersecurity issues.

Prior to co-founding Kluk Farber Law, Sonia practiced in the Litigation Department at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where she was a member of the international dispute resolution, civil litigation, business integrity, and cybersecurity groups. Sonia clerked for the Honorable Lorna G. Schofield in the Southern District of New York.

On a Saturday, you will find Sonia at home in Pelham with her husband Benson and her dog Oscar, working on fixer-upper projects for her new (very old) house.

Kate Freedman

Kate is an associate at Kluk Farber Law. 

Prior to joining KFL, Kate practiced in the commercial real estate group at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP.  At Sullivan & Cromwell, Kate advised on a wide variety of real estate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and mortgage and mezzanine financings.  From 2012-2014, Kate worked as a corporate associate in the Hong Kong and Melbourne offices of Sullivan & Cromwell, representing clients on public and private M&A, equity and debt financings and leveraged loan transactions.

Kate lives in Brooklyn Heights.  On the weekends, Kate tries to fit in a Flywheel class in between long walks and endless singalongs with her new baby.

Drew Macklin

Drew is an associate at Kluk Farber Law.

Drew represents companies, investors and creatives in a variety of industries, with a special focus on KFL’s restaurant & hospitality clients.

Prior to joining KFL, Drew practiced in the private investment funds group at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. At Cleary, Drew advised on a wide variety of corporate matters, including private equity and venture capital fundraises and formations, multi-party fund transactions and restructurings, secondary sales, and structuring for investments and co-investments.

Drew and his wife Blair live in Brooklyn with their two dogs, Lola and Teddy. On the weekends, you will find Drew cooking, listening to records or on an endless search for the perfect bar.

Jan Mensz

Jan is an associate at Kluk Farber Law.

Jan represents companies and individuals navigating complex disputes in and out of court, at trial and on appeal.

Prior to joining KFL, Jan was a staff attorney at the ACLU of Indiana. At the ACLU, Jan litigated a wide variety of civil rights and civil liberties cases involving free speech, disability rights, discrimination, police misconduct, and voting rights. From 2011-2014, Jan was a litigation associate at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP where he worked on white collar, antitrust, and international arbitration matters, and helped manage the firm’s pro bono housing practice.

Jan has also spent time abroad as a Peace Corps volunteer with the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) supporting four legal aid clinics and advocating for women in the northern region of Uganda, which was recovering from a 30-year civil war. Prior to law school, Jan was a paralegal for the U.S. Department of Justice where he spent time in Iraq assisting the Iraqi High Tribunal in the prosecution of Saddam Hussein and members of his regime for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

When he is not chasing his two young kids around the house, you can find Jan on the trails, reviving his childhood passion for mountain biking.

Michelle Nguyen

Michelle is a law clerk at Kluk Farber Law. Michelle studied Public Policy with a focus on educational, child, and family policy at Duke University. She worked as an educational research intern at a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. that aimed at boosting literacy levels and parental engagement in D.C.'s most disadvantaged public schools. She also worked at American Institutes for Research to help several states develop their Common Core standardized tests. After graduation, she co-founded an educational nonprofit based in the Bay Area aimed at helping first generation college students navigate the college application process and adjust socially and academically to the first year of college.

At NYU Law, Michelle focuses on corporate and counseling advice to emerging growth companies and venture capital. She also focuses on intellectual property issues such as trademark and copyright protection.
